"Studying abroad in Valencia has been the most meaningful experience of my college journey so far. It’s shaped how I view the world, given me the confidence to travel independently, and helped me discover career interests in global business. I’ve built friendships across cultures and learned how to balance academics with exploration."

It’s such an amazing community bonded through FSU and a love for your new home away from home where you study abroad."

Program History

The FSU Spain program began in Madrid in 1997 and initially operated between Madrid and Torremolinos. In 1999, the program visited Valencia for the first time during a trip, inspiring a permanent move to the city in 2000. By 2001, the program was operating year-round in Valencia, giving students the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Spanish language and culture.

As the program expanded, local staff were incorporated to strengthen cultural immersion, including the appointment of Ignacio Messana as Program Director, a title he still holds today. In the early 2000s FSU International Programs invested in permanent facilities in Valencia’s historic district. The 'Garnet' building opened in 2007, followed by the 'Gold' building in 2014, establishing FSU Valencia as a growing academic and cultural hub in Spain.
