Program History

The FSU Panama program began in 1957 when the United States Army invited FSU to establish a center in the Panama Canal Zone at Fort Clayton. In 1965, the program relocated to Albrook Air Force Station and became home to the FSU Center for Tropical Studies. By 1967, the center had become a degree-granting branch campus, serving both US personnel and residents of Panama.

In the decades following, FSU Panama expanded its academic reach through the establishment of the English Language Program, membership in the City of Knowledge, and the launch of the 2+2 program, which allows Latin American and Caribbean students to continue their studies at FSU’s campus in Tallahassee. In 2009, FSU Panama moved into its current facilities in the City of Knowledge.
